Barcelona Travel: A 48-Hour Barcelona Spain Guide

The Spanish people are some of the friendliest people I’ve met. During my Barcelona travel, I always felt welcome. It’s kind of like New Orleans. No matter where you go in the city, locals want to make sure you have a good time.

In addition to the time, we spent in Barcelona, Ashlee and I also visited London, Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam on our last trip. I love all of these cities but Barcelona travel is just a different kind of travel. Everyone should experience it. See for yourself in this guide and this guide, and my vlog below.

Best Credit Cards to Use in Barcelona

Let’s just say you won’t leave Barcelona hungry. Those people love to eat! And so do I! That’s why cards with high earn rates at restaurants are key to bring to Barcelona. In particular, the AmEx GoldChase Sapphire Reserve, and Citi Premier are cards to flag. These cards have the added benefit of no foreign transaction fees.

You earn 4x points at restaurants with the Amex Gold. Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers earn 3x at restaurants and on travel. The Citi Premier card earns 3x points at restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and on airfare and hotels.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines fly nonstop between its respective hubs and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN). Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) is another major airport in Spain and also home to Iberia, an airline with several nonstop flights to the US.

In addition to nonstop flights, you can fly Aer Lingus, Aeroméxico, Air France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, KLM, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Royal Air Maroc, and TAP Air Portugal with one-stop between the US and Barcelona.

Be on the lookout for a Top 5 Best Barcelona Hotels to Book With Points guide. In the meantime, IHG, Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott are the first places to start. Check out each of the hotel websites to see which points options you have.

Airbnb and Google Hotels are other options. Ashlee’s guide covers the Airbnb we stayed in and enjoyed. I’d certainly stay there again.

Where to Eat and Drink During Your Barcelona Travel

Skye Coffee Co., Satan’s Coffee, Taco Alto Born, L’Òstia, Vinitus, and Ciudad Condal are the spots we tried. Skye Coffee Co., Taco Alto Born, and Vinitus topped our list.

Disfrutar, Lasarte, Moments, Enoteca, and Angle are restaurants I’m looking forward to trying on our next visit.

Things to Do on Your Barcelona Travel

It’s hard to keep me away from the beach. That’s why we spent an entire afternoon at Barcelona’s beaches upon arrival. Add in sangria and you’re on your way to a relaxing day. In addition to the beach, you want to see Sagrada Familia, a Catholic Church designed by Gaudí in the late 1800s – that’s still under construction. Next, check out the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla.

Camp Nou, Olympic and Sports Museum Joan Antoni Samaranch, and the Magic Fountain of Montjuic are on my list of places to check out on my next visit. Of these three, I’d love to see an FC Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Common Barcelona Travel Questions

Is Barcelona safe for tourists?

Barcelona is currently under a Level 3: Reconsider Travel status by the US state department. However, in pre-COVID times, I never felt unsafe walking around Barcelona. Locals tend to eat later so even when we were out at night, the city felt safe for tourists.

Is Barcelona worth a visit?

From my barcelona travel experience, no question, especially if you love architecture and food. The city has an abundance of both.

Which is the best month to visit Barcelona?

May to July has the combination of low average rainfall and temperatures in the high 60’s to low 80’s according to the National Climatic Data Center.

How many days should you spend in Barcelona?

If you’re into food and/or architecture, you may want to add on a couple more days. For me, three to four days in Barcelona gives you plenty of time to explore what the city has to offer.

Conclusion on this Barcelona Travel Guide

There’s a reason Barcelona is one of the most visited cities in Spain. It’s truly an amazing city. Any city that has a beach nearby and offers world-class food and friendly locals always peaks my interest.
